Serendipity ……

I happened to stumble upon a letter by Horace Walpole, who happened to stumble upon the Persian fairy tale “The Three Princess of Serendip” on his trip and sent it to his friend Horace Mann.

Now this wasn’t planned, but something came from this dreamland, it could have all just been play pretend, yet something came from it in the end, which turned the bland into something more grand; by accident nonetheless, sagacious more than gracious a new word was born. He coined the term serendipity all traced in a mystery, graced by affinity and delivered capriciously just like Breakfast at Tiffany’s!

Realistically its creativity is full of possibilities, scientifically it’s full of fragility. But our experiences give it clarity.

My curious makes me experience the various, exploration is the name of the aim that keeps the flicker in the flame. Looking on, moving on finding new discoveries that weren’t even on the list to quest yet they turn out to be the best, better still they put our ideas and faith to the test.

So here’s to serendipity!

  1. What an interesting post. I think literal and figurative “stumbling” is the key to my own notion of serendipity. I. stumble onto something when I am moving toward something else. The stumble diverts my attention to….and I suddenly discover! This phenomenon occurs to me mostly in bookstores! It’s not that I’m looking for “that” book. It actually happened not so long ago in a bookstore in Tokyo. I was looking for a novel by Murakami. I tripped on a pile of books…it was a used-bookstore…I looked down at a slim volume of poetry by the female Japanese poet, Akiko Yosano. I’ve never heard of her. I picked it up and read a few poems. I forgot all about Murakami. The poems spoke to my soul…. Serendipity led me to this moment.

    Great post. Thanks for sharing.
